CFA or just a Finance Course?

Hello,

I'm trying to get into a good program for financial engineering for 2012. My finance background is kind of weak as I have only read about it. I was an economics major at UConn where finance was non-existent. The only courses I have relating to finance are:
1. Financial Mathematics: A
2. Financial Accounting: B- (Took this Freshman year when I was lazier)

I don't have any finance internships. I'm a licensed real estate salesman in CT and have been working under my dad in that.

I can take an online course this fall at Central Connecticut State University (Managerial Finance). I could also purse a CFA Level 1. I'm also open to other options. My goal is to get into a good MFE program (I still have to take a C++ course (Waiting for the one in the Fall discussed on quant.net), a couple of higher level maths, and the GRE). The CFA L1 exam is in December. What's the best direction for me to accomplish my goal?

CFA would take some time for preparation, since your goal is to get into a good MFE program, I would suggest using this time on something more relevant. Try to get an internship. Both the CFA L1 and the internship would show your interest in finance, but the work experience is usually preferred. Perhaps someone more qualified than me can help you.
