University of Chicago - MS in Financial Mathematics

Chicago MSFM Chicago MSFM Admission Discussion

Hi All, The Financial Mathematics program received an incredibly large number of applications this year. Each week, letters of admission and denial have been sent out. For Round 1 applicants, 98.2% of applicants have received their decision. I am sorry to hear some of you are a part of the 1.8% of applicants who have not. Please feel free to e-mail me at memuir@uchicago.edu to discuss further. I am sorry to hear you felt your application fee was waste of money or even worse, that you think the program would purposefully delay visas for our students. Nothing could be further from the truth, as incoming students can attest that we are currently doing everything in our power to ensure a smooth and efficient matriculation.

Thanks for the response.

Could you please tell what is the percentage applicants from round 2 have received the decision?

I would love to have a conversation with you personally, as you've stated a few issues you have that I would like to address. Please go ahead and e-mail me!

As for Round 2 applicants, we've been able to get 65% of applicants their admission decision. We hope to have all final decisions out soon. We apologize for the delay but were so glad to have such a large number of well-qualified applicants apply this year.

As stated on our website, "We recommend non-US citizens apply in Round 1 to allow sufficient time for processing visa documentation."

Yes, at this time, all Round 1 applicants have received their admissions decision. 89% of Round 2 applicants have received their admissions decision. Any applicants who received or will receive their admissions decision in June will have their application fee refunded.

Wow, this is great! I haven't heard back from NYU courant at this point, and I paid 150 dollars of application fee...

That's awesome! So do you mean that all the admission decisions will come out in June? If not, when the decisions will approximately come out? Thank you!

Hi guys, so I have submitted my application to the Uchicago msfm program for the first round (on january) but heard nothing since then. Is there anyone who got admits/rejection ? When we should expect to get response?

Same here. Submitted before the deadline in January and haven’t heard anything yet. The trackers show that there was a batch released at the time last year. Since today is the last weekday of February, we can wait till the end of day to see if anything happens.

no idea, but if you're really eager to know I would recommend emailing the admissions team

When can we expect decision from the university?
Normally, the last day for decisions is 18th march, but what I see from the tracker is that last years the most of the decisions were announced on either 25th february or 3rd march. So, maybe they will announce the decisions today.

I've been getting more and more frustrated with their lack of communication on why there is a delay this year. Almost every other program has released some results or communicated an exact day when results will be released

I understand your feelings. But on their website, they said applicants will receive a decision by March 18th, so I guess there's still time. Different programs just have different approaches. Some send out ad/rej by batches, some just release at a time. As long as you don't receive an explicit rej, have some hope.
