Hello,

I would like some advice on what basic computer science theory is required or helpful to be a quantitative analyst/researcher. I.e interacting with large databases and other theory that would be useful. I am doing a Masters in QF with an Economics background, so any suggestions on content to learn and any resource recommendations would be really appreciated.

Thanks.

Quantitative analyst is a very generic term. Analyst term comes from the old days where quants are part of investment banks.
As such, the "quant analyst" can describe a large range of job profiles. This is usually a more theoretical role that requires an advanced degree in Math, Stats, CS, Physics, etc. Basically a core STEM degree.
Researchers are responsible for developing trading strategies. Their role in the alpha life cycle can vary a lot from firm to firm; sometimes they develop a proof of concept and hand it off to a developer, sometimes they are responsible for the entire process from idea generation to order execution.
To start off, get some free financial data set off yahoo and play with it using Python packages.
