I am a Second Year student at UCLA and have come to a Crossroads of my Undergraduate Education where I can choose between pursuing:
  • Major: Business Economics, Minor: Accounting, Mathematics
OR
  • Major: Physics, Minor: Accounting
I want to pursue a Career in the field of Quantitative Finance, but I don't know how much my Undergraduate Education will affect them. From my understanding, Computer Science, Physics, and Statistics are typically the Quantitative Studies, but I see on this thread that they really matter at the Graduate level.

Can someone offer my some insight into how each path would affect my road to entering the field of Quantitative Finance? Pursuing a MFE?

Thank You Very Much!

If you want to do quant finance, the obvious choice is path 2. You need a technical major.

But will there be job opportunities for me with a physics undergraduate degree before I pursue some sort of graduate degree?

I'm self learning python right now, and I am also going to take a few Computer Science Courses and pursue literacy in C++ as well. I also like coding.
