I am a recent graduate from a top twenty public with a major in Finance. I have been working at a prop firm since I graduated in May 2009 and have decided that I would like to go back to get a MFE. I realize that I have to take many math of prerequisites and I am looking for some advice on the best way to complete. BYU seems to have decent online math course, but I am wondering if they would be acceptable for the MFE programs. Also I would like to know about some 2nd tier MFE programs that would accept a less qualified student. Any help would be appreciated.

Take a look at this other thread: https://www.quantnet.com/threads/any-math-courses.3688/

Some good info there. Someone mentions Columbia having good online courses but being expensive.

Because you have little/no math background (I assume), self-study isn't really an option so you are left with night classes or online classes. Night classes can be limited; for example a local university I looked at going to for math courses at night only went up to Calc 3.

So online classes it is. University brand wouldn't be my highest priority as long as the university is legit. I would look at what math classes are offered online because you need more than the basics and price of classes.

I think your experience at a prop firm will be advantageous, if not in MFE admissions then for the job search afterward.

Here is a link to the QuantNet MFE ranking: http://www.quantnet.com/pages/mfe-programs-rankings/

You have to be careful with new MFE programs because many universities are adding them as cash cows without having the expertise to offer a quality program.
