I have been working in finance for about 3 years at a a very good place. I was interviewing for position at another decent place. The guy asks me questions straight out of green book and grad school algorithms and nothing related to what I do and how I do them.

Am I expected to remember all of green book and grad school stuff ?

yea, you have to study silly study for interviews. All of the trick questions that you really do not need (except for interviews)

what's the green book?

This interview style frequently exists for quant developer roles as well. They don't ever ask about your experience, what you did to succeed on a really hard project or anything else about your background. Just algorithm questions and brain teasers (in finance they still as brain teasers).
