I'm interested in a career as a quant, but my background isn't quite suited. I'm about to complete an MSc. in Mathematics, in Pure Math. I already have a BSc in Computer Science. I'd like to pursue a career that combines my mathematical and comp sci knowledge, hence my interest in quantitative analysis. There are a few blocks to this happening, though:

1) My skill in C++ is more than adequate but falls short of being 'expert';
2) I know very little about mathematical statistics. The closest related discipline I know well is measure theoretic probability.

In spite of these deficiencies in background, would I still be considered a viable entry-level candidate? If not, how might I make up for it?

Thanks.

How about take some courses in stat? They can't be difficult since you know measure theoretic probability. (This is only in regard to your question on improving stat, and I have no idea about improving the chance of getting a quant job...)

From what I can say, at least in Europe, you won't have a too hard time landing a quant job. It may be that you get your foot in the door via an internship but hey, if that's what it takes, so be it!

You are a Maths MSc => mathematical stats will be a piece of cake for ya! I always found stats lectures relaxing coompared to pure maths ones :)
