How do you keep in touch with people you meet through networking?

Your only real network should be (is) your family. And if you're like me, ie unconfortable to use your family connects, then you're on your own.

Are you in the US? if you are, do you work in the Financial Industry? The easiest way to get a job in the US is by knowing somebody already "in". This is a well known fact. That's what having a network is so important.

Usually, at the end of the interview process there are couple of people which almost identical skills. If you come recommended, your odds of being hired go up tremendously.

No disrespect but, this reminds of the hookers who hang out in bars hoping to catch a rich football player or something.

As long as you have common objectives with people, they'll be in your 'network'. It's all about the short term networks nowdays.
No disrespect to you, but you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

What's wrong with a hooker waiting for a rich football player - If hes into her, hes into her..

Hooker doesn't have anything to offer beside her...

(And I am not saying its wrong)

Yes, she has looks - he has money or fame or both - it's a trade just like everything else done in life.
