I have been a trader for almost 12 years now and would like to progress my career in a quant direction. Currently I am considering returning to school for the MFE or possibly just sitting of the CQF. I would very much appreciate your thoughts on ease of job placement after each program. Given my low GPA, am I likely to even find placing in one of the programs?
A little background about myself. 30 years old.
BS - Finance. 2.5 GPA (was very ill through school and spent a lot of time in hospital)
6 years experience trading family funds
2 years experience as head trader of $330mm L/S fund.
2 years experience working as an macro-ec analyst for a very large quant fund.
1 year of launching and operating a small stat-arb fund w/ $1.6mm AUM.
Trading is my passion and I want to further myself along in this career. I would love to hear your input on if you think it is wiser for me to pursue an MFE or if you think something like the CQF could give me a boost. I plan to continue running my own fund, so initially the additional education is a just a marketing/bragging pitch. I also want to have it for job security should my fund ever need to fold and I have to return to the corporate world.
Cheers.
