Does having a low GPA automatically destroy chances of admission into a program? I have been so indecisive with what I want to do, now I am an Accounting major with a Chem minor although im debating changing my major to finance with a concentration in either financial engineering or trading and derivatives. But my GPA is low and I'm afraid that because of it i wont be able to get into a MSFE program.

Check the Tracker, somebody with a GPA of 3.1 got into the best programs...
And, what's more important is which classes you take. You need math and programming and a lot of them.

Overall GPA isn't as important as having a particular strength relevant to FE, like math or programming. If you're super-good at something mathematical or technical and can prove it, that'll get you through no matter what your GPA in other subjects is.

Hi Peterruse, How can you prove "super-good at math or tech"? through SOP ? I have the same problem. I got applied math B.S. the FE curriculum is really easy for me. however, my undergrad GPA is below 3 so how can I prove them? Can you please give some advice?

Low GPA can be eliminated by high GRE. Also, if you have high scores in mathematical and financial subjects that contributes much more than other irrelevant ones making your GPA low.
