I have some general doubts about MFE programs. Any help is welcome.

  • What do MFE graduates end up doing 5-10 years down the line? Do some of them do MBA?
  • There are various C++ contract/full-time jobs posted on e-financial careers/linkedin and other similar websites for developing financial models in C++? Are MFE graduates eligible/preferred for these jobs or are people with CS backgrounds preferred?
  • What are the different roles available to MFE graduates?
Any suggestions/opinions are welcome.

Thanks

Gaurav, there are lots of roles described on QuantNet. In addition, Andy has posted some excellent reference material.

  • If they are lucky and good at their job (in no particular order), they are still employed in finance sector. Very few people would do an MBA.
  • Best man for the job is hired. It's easier to find a great developer and teach him finance. The opposite is not true.
  • Just look at the job profiles on a few MFE programs to get an idea. In general, they are currently wider in scope and a few years ago.
I would say that these are the things that you would research carefully and be pretty comfortable with the answers before you pay money to enroll in any MFE program.
