NYU/Columbia - Prospective student

Hello everyone,
I'm currently finishing my undergraduate and looking forward to apply to a few programs next year, especially Columbia's MSOR and NYU's MathFin. There are a lot of threads here about NYU's program. It seems that OR is on the rise lately and could compete with MFEs while being less focused on quant finance. Indeed, a majority of OR graduates at Columbia ends up in quantitative finance (or so do the placement figures tell).
How do you feel about it ? Would you even consider an OR program in the first place ?

I’ve applied to the msor as you can tailor it to take th same classes as the mfe at a much cheaper price. Tbh if you know your stuff well enough you’ll u can compete with the mfe students

Oh but then are there any benefit for holding a "standard" MFE degree ? Do you think people are applying only for the sake of the brand ?
