Is it true that the industry or HR generally prefer .doc over .pdf?

Just have a copy in each format. But I think most jobs will prefer 'doc' or some other text format, so they can scan them and look for keywords.

I got this same concern before when some recruiter asked for my CV in doc. It turned out that they removed the name and contact info before sending out to employers.

don't know about that but I've never had such a request. I always send the PDF.

PDF is the best way to make sure that your resume will look exactly the same as you see it. In a .doc format there are many things could be different once file is opened in another computer.

Moreover, PDF is not a picture, and it's not hard to scan it the same way as Word files. Also, with professional version of Adobe Acrobat any alterations can be made in your resume. However, I wouldn't like the idea of someone changing my resume without my permission. Sometimes it makes sense to password protect your resume from changes.

It's frustrating to work with [.doc]. The format and layout won't match my original output. Do you know any programs that nicely convert [.tex] or [.pdf] to [.doc]?

I've seen quite a few ads requesting .doc style resumes. I personally would prefer to send in pdf form, I've had far too many problems with word documents either being changed by well-meaning, but clueless headhunters, and just errors in opening the files on the other end.

Speaking of resume advice, does anyone know of a reliable advisor to help with tailoring a resume? I look at all the online templates and advice, but I still want to polish it up and am wondering if anyone new of a good service to give it a once-over.
