Tips to learn LaTeX

Anyone have any online resources or tricks to learning how to write a document in LaTeX? I need to write my thesis in LaTeX and I have never used it before. What is the best compiler/editor to use?

Texmaker is a great editor. As for learning how to use it, I just started with http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/LaTeX and googled everything else I needed.

I have been using kile in fedora since I learned about it from a colleague. there are lots of such editors, say , texmaker.
but after enrolling finance classes, I moved to word.

Too much homework can make one filial to windows. tex is elegant, but if one did not have time to enjoy the process...

You can tex in windows just as well as any other OS, there are multiple editors available WinEdt, TeXnicCenter, TexWorks that comes with MikTeX.
