Put it this way -- most quant jobs are in banks, and banks are about doing business. And doing business means talking to clients, managing relationships, and getting deals done. ABC, always be closing. Quants are a necessity for various reasons, but by and large they aren't the revenue creators so their output is hard to quantify (ironically).
Also, even some places that first come to mind as technical/quant places are highly client oriented with lots of sales staff and account management (KCG is one example).
