Hi Andy,
My name is Tung Phan and I'm a 3rd PhD student in Stat at the Wharton School. I'm looking for a summer internship. I found your posts very helpful and instructive. From your experience, what are the good firms to intern for? We can also exchange thoughts via email. Mine is tungphan87@gmail.com. Thank you man!
Hello Golllini,
Just came across your post on "Advice for Princeton MFin Applicants".
I am a bit confused between MS in Finance and MS in Financial Economics. Can you please kindly guide me through this?

Hi Vaibhav,

I'm not sure what the difference is either.

Princeton's MFin program is really a Master of Financial Engineering program. It's a bit lighter on the quant side, but you can't graduate without at least one course that teaches you the basics of Stochal and one course that teaches you econometrics.

There is a difference between an MFE (Financial Engineering) and an MSF. Is that what you are asking?

Vaibhav Dhabaria
Ok.
Yes. Actually when I started looking into my courses this was primarily my question. But now it has changed to:
MFE vs. MathFin vs. CompFin?
Considering that I don't want a profile that is full of coding.
do you think MathFin will be the right choice?
And what do you feel about NYU Poly's MFE?

Vaibhav I think the distinctions between MFE, Fin Math, MSFE, MS ORFE, and the like are extremely nuanced at most.

If you don't want a profile full of coding, avoid CMU MSCF and apply to the other top schools.

NYU has a great MFE program, but I am less sure about NYU Poly. Take NYU, Cornell, Columbia, or UC Berkeley if you can; if you can't, then maybe consider NYU Poly.
Hi Daniel, I am an undergrad (mechanical) from india. I have completed courses in C and python. However, My only exposure to C++ was during high school and i am well versed with the fundamentals and have the basic knowledge of data structures. With my background would you suggest i buy your book to have the C++ proficiency required for a potential MFE applicant or should i start with an elementary book? Thankyou!
Hi, Andy,
I have just enrolled in the C++ program and because I have little experience in C++, I feel difficulties in the first two levels.
Could you please change the enrollment date to a later time(like today) or is it better for me to cancel the enrollment now and come back after I get myself ready for the program? Thank you!

I have adjusted the starting date for you as today.

HI Andy, question for C++ Certificate program. Is it possible for TA to write a letter of reference for my application for MFE program? Thanks
Greg,
Received your report and the inappropriate comment have been removed. Thanks

Hey Donny...I would like to give you a call discuss this opportunity with you. I have carefully read the requirement and I know a few well qualified people(including myself) who would be more than interested to purse this opportunity. I just need a few more details. Please send me your contact number at abhishek.kumar@hertshtengroup.com
Hi Andy, I want to do the C++ certificate that Quantnet offers and am just wondering when would be the next possible time to enroll? I noticed that you mentioned that during the 1st and 15th of every month one will be able to enroll, however, is this still the case? Thanks
hi lonely,
Are you joining columbia mathfin this year. I see you are 30 and I am also approaching 30. It would be really helpful if you can help me here. I am from India as well.
hello Sir, i like finance and its mathematical aspect. i am not a big fan of programming. some programming is fine but i would not want a course which is built around programming. I find MIT and Princeton courses really nice but one can never be sure about being admitted. So suggestions for any other school which has nearly the same curriculum? Any help is appreciated. thankyou!
Hello, I got an admission from UCLA mfe program. Are you a current student there? what do you think of this program? How is the career serivce? There are some really bad review of the program on the quantnet. Is the placement records are all windowdressed? And the school lies about the career service? I also got an admission form Columbia OR program. Do you know anything about this program? Thank you very much!
Hi, I read your opinion on admit to different programs. I got an admission from UCLA MFE . What do you think of this program? I saw some really bad review of this program on this website, saying that this program has zero exposure to the industry or career service, and the placement record on the official website is windowdressing. I also got an MSOR from Columbia, which AD is better? Thank you very much!

I can't tell you anything because I didn't go to any of those programs. Try to find some former alumni or current students so you can get good information.

I will take all the posts on this site regarding schools with a truck load of salt since most of the people here are just prospective students so they have no idea of what is really going on with those programs.
