  • Hi Andy, I have been reading your comments in forums for months and I am very impressed about your knowledge in this field. I am a PhD in Applied Mathematics and an early stage Assistant Professor in Applied Mathematics with strong programming knowledge in Matlab and C++. My goal is to become a Quant. I was wondering what would be your suggestion for the simplest way to achieve this goal.
    Thanks, Zeev

You probably should apply for jobs directly or via a recruiter.

Thank you Andy, I have been trying and got only one interview. I guess the market is very difficult these days. Thanks again

The landscape has changed and the job market is shrinking.

On top of all things, they said only full semester long courses will work which means Baruch PreMFE courses will not be eligible.

    The c++ is a 16-week course, a whole semester.

Yes thats true but the first condition applies ... No online or internet courses accepted. Period. Its very unfortunate, screws up my whole plan....
Hi Andy. I talked to you before about the C++ programming course offered on this website. I am now ready to commit myself to this course. And I have pre-registered. Do you think I can get enrolled anytime soon? Or I have to finish level 1 and level 2 first?

Phoebe, you can enroll anytime as soon as you pay tuition. You don't have to finish level 1,2 first but you should be ready to start work on the HW as soon as you enroll.

Thanks for the prompt reply =)
Hi Andy, I am a undergraduate stuent who is going to declare a major. I am interested in finance, physics, and math. My dream job is working as a quant. I am not sure if going to business school of USC or UCBerkerley and double major in math is a good choice. I can also take six computer classes to get a computer science minor. Or do you think getting a C++ certificate during or after education is enough. Thank you!

Thanks Andy, the link is really helpful. Since math and computer programming are both important, which one do you think should be chosen as the second major? (I only can choose one)

please see the QuantNet guide quantnet.com/guide it has some coverage on Singaporean programs.
Hi Sir, I saw that you had posted a message about an Excel/C# newsreader. I had a similar idea. Is there any way that could get that Excel code from you so that I dont have to write my own code? Thanks,

you can email me at matthewcoxinvest (at) gmail.com.
    Thanks

Hi Andy, I'm sorry to bother you. I've decided to take up a course in the C++ certificate for Baruch, however, i can only be free after december this year, 2012. I wonder if it is possible if you could schedule one class to begin after the 1st Dec 2012? Or if there might be another enrollment for the C++ after this Oct Enrollment, which i could participate in..
    sorry..
Hi Anh Andy, my name is Hoang. I'm glad to see a Vietnamese quant in here. I am still an undergraduate student, but I'm very interested in the field of financial engineering. I was wondering if I could have a chat with you occasionally to learn more about this field. thank you in advance.

Sure, send me a Private message if you have questions.
I have a suggestion for 2013 Rankings: for them to come out at the first quarter. I don´t know if the logistics would make this impossible. I'm just suggesting because at that quarter most people decide which program to enroll, so fresh information would be very helpfull
Hello Andy, thanks for the guide! The articles are very interesting and helpful for people like me who wish to enroll to a program starting in September 2013.
    Hi Andy!
Thank you for the last QuantNet guide, it is a great piece of work. Just a slight correction - page 70, SQA column, 3rd row. There is "Membership Description" in the cell, which I think does not belong there.

In case there is going to be a revised version sometimes in the future :)
hi andy, currently is there a waiting list for enrolment to the quantnet c++ course? if i enrol and make the payment now will i be able to access level 3?
    Andy Nguyen

Hi feladin, if you enroll now, you will be able to access level 3 as soon as you pass quiz 2. Good luck and see you there soon ;)
Hi, Andy I am in need of a chanlleging and real world practical research topic for phd in financial mathematics (quantitative finance).
Hi Andy! I have a question regarding Masters in USA. First, let me give you a heads up on what I have scored in GRE. It was a let down and I scored 305 (V-147 and Q-158). I'd like to understand if I can manage to grab a seat for MFE in any of the decent colleges in USA. Can you please guide me through about this? Or am I just wasting my time trying with such low scores?

Most top programs will admit students with Q 164 or around 92-94 percentile. Take a look at the Tracker for more data on the programs of your interest.

    Hi Andy,

Can you point me to the right place for profile evaluation. I am unsuccessful with that..

    Thanks in anticipation.

Maybe the best way to go is to look at our Tracker and compare your profile with those admitted.
    hello Andy, needed your advice.
i am not exactly sure if quantitative finance is my thing, because it involves a hell lot of programming and this very word gives me nightmares. however, i have a background in finance and want to go into investment banking.
do u think it Ms finance is a good choice for that matter?
    help would be greatly appreciated.

If program is not your thing, then MFE is out. MSF may be a better choice.
Hi! Andy! Can i ask you a quick question about course choice? I have taken real analysis(honor section), should I take Advanced calculus or Intermediate Probability next semester ? Thank you!
