Hi all,

I'm going to apply to some MFE programs and I would like to know how much time before the deadline is recommended to take the GRE.

For example, if the deadline is December 1, can I take the GRE November 30?

Thanks in advance

It would not be ok to take it November 30th, it takes between 10-15 days for your scores to be made official.

Are you assuming that the scores must arrive at the university before the deadline?

Are you sure about that?

It's up to the school, and ultimately it could prove problematic. You can submit scores after the deadline, but no one will look at an application that doesn't have test scores, so you're effectively last in line. Historically, being looked at last in an applicant pool isn't favorable.

Yes, I was assuming you would have to turn in everything by the deadline. Many school FAQs have a section regarding the GRE and they state that you should plan ahead and take the test with time as you need the scores or the application will not be considered complete.

Thank you very much for your consideration.

So how much time before the deadline is recommended to take it?

The GRE web site states that 10-15 days are necessary for the scores, so I assume that I should take it 18-20 days before taking into account the time needed for the delivery.

Am I right?

I believe they need 10-15 working days in order to report your scores. It usually happens earlier than this but you can't take that risk. I wrote my exam on Sept 2nd and the scores were reported by 12th Sept to the 4 schools I entered.
