If true, this is fantastic news for ex-military members of Quantnet

Five of the big Wall Street banks -- Bank of America, Citi, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs -- joined forces in September to found a recruiting coalition dubbed Veterans on Wall Street. The group, in concert with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the federal Labor Department, is producing a conference and veterans job fair June 23 with about 100 local employers converging on the U.S.S. Intrepid aircraft carrier docked in the Hudson River.

Of course, but it is good for everyone. Veterans are pretty good candidates for the grueling hours and hard work... it's fair to say they had their fair share of experience overseas!

How does it work? Do they get hired for certain high-stress jobs? And who gets recruited? Commissioned officers like retired majors and colonels?

Two broker dealers (institutional equity sales and research) that I used to work for had a soft spot for ex-military and retired pro/semi pro/D1 varsity athletes - Nearly guaranteed an interview.

In part this had to do with SMDs coming from the same background, and in part for the perceived "grace under fire" inherently necessary in the job.

It really is mid level guys. Once you reach Col. you would benefit more by going into private industry that ties with the military. Something like Booz Allen or whatever. Military guys can get in with help from other military guys or they go to grad school. Of course, not all military experience is amazing (not taking anything away from them), but technical fields, intelligence fields, infantry at the officer level, etc.
