Is it possible to leverage an MFE to move into science in the private sector, perhaps working for firms such as Numerica?

Not to say that it hasn't been done, but...

If something's never been done before, how do you know if it's possible?

Why not directly choose science related degrees? Or its just the backup option you are talking about?

I'm sure it's been done before, but it's probably hard. Not that the MFE wouldn't teach you relevant skills to doing certain things, but the sciences are also competitive and an MFE probably has net negative signalling value to a hiring manager in the sciences.

Even though there's probably less overlap of topics in an MFE with traditional finance than with the sciences, you'd probably have better luck applying to corporate finance jobs just because an MFE indicates your interests lie somewhere in the finance direction.
