I am rising senior and I am planning to give CFA and CAIA this year. I will be completing few level this year and the remaining ones the next year. How likely am I to break into finance probably in small analyst positions in ER or portfolio management? Last summer i just goofed around and this summer I was not able to get intern so i ended up doing research in computations/statical part for a research. I really dont want to get stranded next year even though i will have passed some levels of CFA and CAIA? Do you guys thing doing CFA and CAIA or going to Grad School for mathematics is a good option at this current economic conditions?

More certificates/schools are not always a sure thing to get a job. In this market, you need to hustle more, hit the ground and network like crazy to get something. Nobody knows what will the job market be this time next year, it could be much worse. Use your research as a stepping stone into similar positions.

You mention CFA/CAIA. You didn't mention any upgrade on the programming front. It could be much more practical. People with CFA L1, L2, etc are just in great supply these days. People with good coding skill are always in great demand.
