C++ online certificate for MFE applicants

Andy,
Does this course offer the flexibility in terms of when to start it...Instead of September, can I start this program in Dec 2011 and then complete it within 16 weeks after that?...
Thanks..

Absolutely. This is the unique idea behind our course.
You start the day you sign up for it, be it in Sept, Oct, whenever you are ready. You can finish it anytime within 16 weeks of enrollment (when you make payment).

Hi Andy,
What minimum math background/level are you assuming students will have? Also, I know you earn a certificate, but do we also earn credits for it so that credits can be transferred into a program we apply to?

1) This is a programming course so there is no official math requirement. C++ is a mainstream language so it should be accessible to anyone with an aptitude for logical thinking. Anyone thinking of doing MFE or entering quant finance should have no problem with the bare minimum knowledge required for this course.
2) No. I'm not aware of any comparable online C++ course that also provides transferable credits.

In the US, grades are normally provided only to credit-bearing courses so that they can be calculated into GPA. Since this course does not provide credit, it will be on a Pass/Fail basis. Since Baruch MFE provides the certificate, it's likely that they can come up with a grading to differentiate those that done extremely well in the course. Here is the info on how they grant certificates for similar courses they have.

Certifications:
For each seminar, a Certificate of Completion will be issued upon passing the final exam and obtaining a 70% or higher average.
For each seminar, a Certificate of Completion with Distinction will be awarded to students with a 90% or higher average.

90% :(... Will there be a Final exam?

The info is for reference only.
Of course, there will be a final exam/project.
It's our goal that MFE programs should be able to see that people taking this course will know C++ beyond the basic admission requirement and able to hit the ground running when it comes to programming.

That's why Quantnet chooses to work with serious partners like Daniel Duffy and the Baruch MFE program.

Hi Andy,

Is this program 100% going to happen? Not that I doubt your seriousness, but if it's not set in stone just yet I would like to come up with a backup plan.

Thanks

Yes, it's going to happen. All partners have formally signed on months ago.
It's now ongoing works behind the scene to set up the infrastructure and line up contents for the opening day.

I'm just as excited as you because I will take the course as well ;)

can't believe it. Why you need to take the course?

As Andy said, it's done and dusted and everything is ready to go.

For myself, I expect to have recorded and done all things by September 1.

So, don't forget to sign up.
