C++ Online Certificate Students' intro thread

Objective: Learn C++ , improve industry opportunities. Maybe MFE in future.

Programming experience: Julia, MATLAB, R, Python, Stata.

Current work: Assistant Finance Professor.

Intended pace of program: I plan to do an accelerated study (1-2 months).

Hello! My name is Matthew. I'm an economics/math student from Los Angeles.

Objective: Learn C++ for MFE programs (Hopefully Baruch!) and familiarize myself with computational finance.

Programming Experience: R, Python, very basic C++

Current Work: Student

Intended Pace: I plan to complete the first two levels slowly because I'm still working on applications. However, I plan on going much faster after that. I hope to be done in March!

Hi Everyone:

I'm a Math & Econ student from Atlanta, Georgia. I'm currently applying for multiple MFE programs in the U.S.

Objective: Get familiar with C++ programming for financial applications.
Programming Experience: Java, Python, R, and MATLAB.
Intended Pace: I plan to follow the recommended study time for each level and complete the exam by the end of April.

Hi all,

I am a former finance major who worked at a shop focused on preferred equity and junior sub debt until February of last year. I am taking this C++ class and the other pre-MFE courses (I completed AC-FE already; NLA and probability start next month).

I am taking these courses to improve my candidacy for MFE programs.

I intend to get as much done as possible in January before the other courses occupy my attention.

Hi everyone, I majored in finance during my undergraduate studies and am currently working as a Data Analyst in NYC. I’m interested in learning more about coding applications in finance and exploring whether an MFE program or a career in Financial Engineering is the right fit for my future. I took an Introduction to C++ course in college, which will hopefully give me a head start in this course. I plan to follow the recommended study schedule but will try to accelerate my progress if possible.

Hi All - great to see so many quant finance enthusiasts out there :)

I have graduated last year from LSE with a bachelor in Maths with Econ. I am currently leaving the risk management team of a multi-strat hedge fund to apply for front office jobs, ideally quant trading, as like searching for exploitable patterns in the data to build optimal strategies.

Objective : Get C++ skills applied trading OR apply for the MFE.
Programming experience: Statistics/ML in R and Python, Modelling and random simulation in Python, Data science in Python, Backtesting in VBA, Optimisation in AMPL, Options pricing (BS/Binary tree/Heston model) in Python.
Intended pace: 3-4h per day

Looking forward to meeting the education team!

Hello!

My name is Axel, and I hold a Bachelor's degree in Economics and a Master's degree in Finance. I am excited to dive into C++ programming to prepare for MFE programs, with Baruch College being my top choice. My goal is to strengthen my foundation in computational finance and enhance my programming skills.

Programming Experience: R, Python

Objective: Learn C++ for my career goal as a Quant Trader / Researcher.

Programming experience: mainly Python, and some exposure to MATLAB, SQL.

Current work: Full-time MSc Quant Finance at SMU, Singapore; Equity and Futures self-trader to sponsor my living and studying.

Intended pace of program: plan to accelerate slightly faster than the recommended structure. I am going to finish my MSc degree this year, and I hope that this program further facilitates my job applications.

Hi everyone! My name is Zan Song (you can also call me Zayne), and I'm a Finance student from Shanghai. I'm currently in the process of applying for MSDS/MFE graduate programs in the US. I have a background in quantitative analysis and some experience with Python from a research replication project during my university courses.

I'm really excited to join this community and look forward to learning from all of you. Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn! (Here's my profile, and I'll remove it if it's against community rules: https://www.linkedin.com/in/zan-song-9b7932285/)

My main goal right now is to learn C++. I see it as a valuable asset for my financial engineering applications, but even beyond that, I believe it will be a really enriching experience.

My programming experience so far includes R, Python, and Stata. As a student, I'm currently focusing on this learning journey and hoping to complete a project by mid-March.

Looking forward to connecting with you all!

Hello all,

My name is Jacob and I am preparing to do an MFE in the fall which makes this course an ideal way to prepare. I have some experience with Python and R Studios but none in C++ so this will be new material for me. I graduated with a BSc in Finance in March of 2024 so I am also looking for summer internships I can complete before the fall.

Good luck everyone!

Hi, all. I am a last-year PhD student in Maths and I am looking for jobs as a Quant. I only have a little bit of experience in programming and most of them are irrelevant with quant finance. Very happy to meet you guys here, hopefully, all of us will gain a lost of handy C++ knowledge here!

Hi all, I have 12 years of experience in ML/AI but have spent the last several years as a product manager, primarily reading PRs and only pushing small changes myself. I have C#, Python, and SQL experience but not a lot of C++.

I'm looking to make a career transition into quant and get into an MSFM program and excited to take this course!
